I am a full-time freelance Spanish Translator and a Translation and Interpreting graduate, and also a Sworn/Certified translator. The languages I work with are English, French, Greek, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
I have a nineteen-year experience in translating and proofreading a wide range of texts (general, medical, financial, literary, technical and legal, among others).I have also translated accounting documents, financial statements, audit reports, futures and options contracts, capital market agreements, simplified prospectuses, contracts, regulations, death and birth certificates, wills, etc.) and dealt with texts related to the technical field in general: engineering, electronics, energy, chemistry, textiles, agriculture, automotive, aviation, etc; mainly texts related to the European Commission. Besides, I have worked with texts on cinema, tourism, history, religion, philosophy, music, sociology, cosmetics, fashion and art in general.
I have studied Biology at University level and have a Masters Degree in Bioethics. I have Diplomas in English, French and Spanish and have been working as official translator in Greece since 1989 in Spanish, English and Greek and all the combinations between those languages.
A PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge with a strong education in Linguistics. I have a long experience in translation, mostly from ancient literary sources to modern languages, starting from my degree in Classics all the way through to my PhD. My passions are ancient and modern European languages and programming. I want to apply my knowledge in these areas to translate texts about culture/history and software.
I enjoy translation for many reasons. I have always had an interest in foreign languages and cultures, so it is a pleasure for me to have the opportunity to work with them. I also find the process of researching a subject to ensure a solid translation to be particularly satisfying, as well as investigating the expressive possibilities of my target language, an aspect of the translation process that is often overlooked and yet an important element of the quality of the final product.
I have experience using tools such as Trados or Memsource, as well as the various reliable reference sources for each language (DIEC; Treccani; RAE; Τριανταφυλλίδη...). The type of translation that most attracts my attention is literary, although I have extensive demonstrable experience in the field of technical translation (recent projects being for the nautical and stone industry). Please refer to my CV for details, and descriptions of various assignments I have carried out.
