My name is Vanessa Walsh and I'm currently working as a freelance translator and language teacher in Bavaria, Germany. I have an MA in Translation Sciences from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and a BA from Queen's University in Canada in Foreign Languages and Intl. Studies (French/German). I grew up in Ontario, Canada, and English is my mother language. I have many years of immersion in my source languages, years of uninterrupted translation experience, and an excellent command of English, my target language. I specialize in medical translation. Further experience includes literary, academic, website, and business/marketing translation, and I have translated several documents including novels, academic papers, scripts, business plans, and more, from FRA-ENG and DEU-ENG.

I am currently studying an MA in translation studies on a part-time basis (2021-2023), having completed an undergraduate degree in European Studies with German and Spanish over the previous four years. Having worked as an intern in a translation and localization role in 2021, continuing as a freelancer afterwards, I have 6 months experience in translating a wide range of texts. I have a keen interest in travel and culture, having spent time abroad in both Germany and Spain during my degree. With exceptional writing skills, having written a first-class dissertation and essays for competitions and journals, I bring an organisational mindset and an eye for detail to my work.

I also have considerable interpersonal skills through my role as a peer support leader in guiding first year students through their transition into university. I have translated ever since my college graduation. I translate in the combinations Spanish-English, and German-English. I specialized in translating contracts, novels, certificates, certifications, wills, deeds, court sentences. Furthermore, I have translated for mining and drug companies. I work on projects concerning to drug information, medical reports, drug test results, leasing of mines, information about minerals, among others. Furthermore, I have translated novels, and poetry books. I love what I do. Currently, I am learning Portuguese and French in order to be able to translate from those languages to English.

I am a very experienced German, Spanish and French-speaking translator, localiser, proof-reader and editor of written texts from a wide variety of areas from those languages into English. I also have some experience in translating from English into German.
