My name is Vanessa Walsh and I'm currently working as a freelance translator and language teacher in Bavaria, Germany. I have an MA in Translation Sciences from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and a BA from Queen's University in Canada in Foreign Languages and Intl. Studies (French/German). I grew up in Ontario, Canada, and English is my mother language. I have many years of immersion in my source languages, years of uninterrupted translation experience, and an excellent command of English, my target language. I specialize in medical translation. Further experience includes literary, academic, website, and business/marketing translation, and I have translated several documents including novels, academic papers, scripts, business plans, and more, from FRA-ENG and DEU-ENG. I also work with technical translations and/or post-editing.

Native English speaker with 10 years of experience translating into English (5 as a full-time translator), an Undergraduate degree in French and Portuguese from the University of Leeds and a Masters in Translation. I also have 9 years of experience teaching English as a second language and have worked as a copywriter for 1 year in-house, and 4 years as a freelancer.

In addition to that I have also gained valuable in-house experience by working at established and well-known translation agencies occupying roles as translation checker and proof-reader as well as project manager and translator.

I am a native English speaker who lived and worked in France for over 17 years, giving me a native-level command of that language and culture. Since starting to work as a translator in March 2016 I have translated and revised over 500,000 words in a broad range of fields, including marketing, technical, automotive, medical, sport and many more. I am a passionate linguist with many years of experience in translation and interpretation. I hold an M.Phil in French from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, with a specialization in Translation & Interpretation, and also a C1 from Alliance française of Madras. I work predominantly between English and French. I translate mainly literary, general, administrative texts as well as scientific articles and reviews. Winner of translation grant from Centre national du livre, Paris.

I localize online, marketing, commercial and PR content to help give clients direct access to the English-speaking market, specializing in the tourism industry. My extensive translation experience includes tourism websites, legal documents, rental contracts, social media articles as well as literature, having translated my first book last year (2016). I also provide English editing/proofreading services in collaboration with non-English native translators in other language pairs.
