The XML Localization Interchange File Format (XLIFF) is a special file format that allows you to easily send content for translation and get the work back again. Many content management systems, tools, and platforms support it as a de-facto standard for the import/export of files.
To put this into perspective, there are two unfortunately incompatible versions of XLIFF, these being 1.x (1.2 is the most wide-spread) and XLIFF 2.0. Previously, Smartcat would work with XLIFF 1.2, but we started noticing that more tools are now using XLIFF 2.0. That’s when we decided it was time for an upgrade to keep up with industry standards.
So, we’d like to officially reveal the news that we have added support for XLIFF 2.0, and will automatically detect this type of file when you upload it manually, or send it into Smartcat through our API. No action is required from you, it’s part of our journey towards automation success!
Better compatibility = happier clients!
